I'm Allison & together with my dog Olly I enjoy walking around the lovely Sussex countryside. A few years ago I set up a walking group so that we weren't always walking on our own. For Olly related reasons I've not been able to join existing walking groups so setting up my own group was the way forward and its worked out very well as I've made some wonderful friends as a result.

I work full time so my walking time is restricted but I also work shifts so the days I can walk vary. I nearly always do a walk every ten days on the day I move to a night shift. The idea being that I am tired enough after the walk to get a few hours sleep before going to work. Sometimes, depending on how busy I am, I will do another walk on my rest days or my daughter will join me & we'll go off walking together. As I work I don't have enough time to pre-walk my walks and most of the time I'll never have done the walk before. So my walks are always adventures into the unknown and everyone is made aware beforehand that there is a risk of getting lost or doubling back!
I plan my walks using the Ordnance Survey website & follow the route on my phone. I have always loved gadgets so having a phone with an electronic map which also shows me where I am fills me with joy. I am aware 'proper' walkers disapprove but I love it and it makes it possible for me to do my walks. If I was relying on paper maps I'd have given up half way through the first walk!
Having done a fair few walks over the last couple of years with my walking group I have found I have lost track of when I've done what walk. I'm also interested in the local history of where we walk and I'll get asked for details of the walk so people can do it again on their own.
Some of my walks have been based on walks from other websites which provide excellent directions & guidance. The idea of this blog is not to provide detailed instructions for my walks but to give me the opportunity to ramble on about my rambles. You should be able to download the gpx files for my routes but you follow them at your own risk, you've the same likelihood of getting lost as I had!
I will also upload photos from my walks which are taken on my phone. I am (or was when I had more time) a keen but very amateur photographer but I've no desire to lug an SLR camera & tripod with me or time to set up a perfect photo. I can't wait for perfect weather for each photo either....if it's raining then that's what you get; a dreary grey photo!
So in short; this is my opportunity to ramble on about my rambles in the beautiful Sussex countryside.
